Most delays in getting academic documents abroad are not caused by anything dramatic. They come from small, avoidable errors made at the start. Here are five that come up again and again, and how to sidestep them.

It is tempting to request 'a transcript' and hope it fits. But an evaluator, employer or council usually has a precise requirement — a sealed transcript posted to them, an electronic transcript through a named channel, or a transcript plus individual marks cards. Read their document list first and request exactly that.

If your name appears three slightly different ways across your marks cards, degree and passport, expect questions. Overseas bodies cross-check against your passport. Reconcile these before you apply, and correct genuine record errors through the university's process.

For formal purposes, a transcript generally needs to travel sealed from the university to the receiving body, or through an approved electronic route. A copy you forward is often rejected. Never break the seal on a set meant for an evaluator.
